The guitars from that very “Squier Series” are official and genuine Fender guitars like any mexican made Fender guitar regardless, and if you have a mexican made Fender Telecaster, Stratocaster or Precision Bass with a black label and a serial number beginning with MN3, MN4, MN5, MN6, MN7 or MN8, you have a genuine Fender guitar. The earliest Fender serial numbers were stamped on the bridge, moving to the neck plate in 1954. From 1951 to 1963, the Fender bass serial numbers were pretty straightforward, using sequential numbers, although there are exceptions. Sometime in 1963, Fender added an “L” prefix with 5 digits to all the serial numbers that lasted to mid-1965.
For Japanese serial number dating see Fenders site. Stagemaster Deluxe (neck-thru maple necks with basswood wings), and the Double Fat Tele Deluxe (all solid. IC = Made in Indonesia by Cort (solid agathis from 1998), followed by 2-digit year. Including reissues like Jazzmasters and Mustangs.

I bought a Squier Affinity Strat last Dec. and on checking the serial number I got this from Google.
Indonesian Squiers
IC: I = Indonesia, C = Cor-Tek (Cort), the serial number prefix is followed by a 2 number year. IS: I = Indonesia, S = Samick, the serial number prefix is followed by a 2 number year. For example 'IC02' Made in 2002. In 2009-10 some Indonesian Squier's had the prefix ICS09XXXXX and ICS10XXXXX. There are a number of standard models that have the ICS prefix some are FSR but some are just normal run models. It therefore appears as though the the S in ICS is only an indication as to whether it is a Factory Special Run or FSR guitar (manufactured by Cor-Tek in Indonesia). It also appears likely that any FSR guitar beginning with ICS will be a Squier 'Standard' as opposed to any of the other models i.e. CV, Deluxe etc.
My serial number is ICS10207241 so I know the year, but is there any other way I can determine the difference between a Standard and Affinity?

Some Squiers that are sold only in the Chinese and Asian markets, starting with usually the serial number
CXS: the 'X' stands for 'Axl'.
